We
established a center where we perform capsule endoscopies
using the Given® Diagnostic System which is based on the
patented M2A Ingestible Imaging Capsule, recording color video
images as it glides smoothly through the digestive tract and
is naturally excreted.
Pathologies of the small bowel or small intestine are
notoriously difficult to diagnose, have vague symptoms, and
are therefore usually advanced at the time of definitive
diagnosis. Current methods permit visualization only of
approximately the first one-third of the small bowel.
There
is a clear need for the Given® system - a diagnostic tool
solution that is non-invasive, easy to use and provides a
substantially improved level of visual imaging for early and
improved detection of the pathologies of the small bowel.

Given® Diagnostic System
|
 |
M2A disposable
imaging capsule that is swallowed by the patient and,
with the aid of peristalsis, the natural movement of
the bowel, the capsule moves smoothly and painlessly
through the GI tract. As the capsule passes through
the GI tract, it transmits video signals which are
stored in the receiving unit. These signals also
enable the system to trace the physical course of the
capsule's progress. The capsule is excreted naturally
out of the body. |
 |
A wireless recorder worn on a belt
around the waist that receives signals transmitted by
the capsule through an array of antenna placed on the
patient's body. The ambulatory belt, which can be worn
comfortably, permits users to continue about their
daily activities during the "GI
examination." |
 |
A computer workstation, equipped
with Given's proprietary RAPID (Reporting
and Processing of Images and Data) software, that
processes the data and produces a short video clip of
the small intestine together with additional relevant
information from the digestive tract. The RAPID
workstation will permit physicians to view, edit and
archive the video and save individual images and short
video clips. |
